Organisation Profile
The Bardo Foundation is dedicated to transforming the landscape of outcomes for children and young people diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer that most commonly affects adolescents. Inspired by the experience of the founders’ son, Bernardo (“Bardo”), who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma as a teenager and lost his life at just 16 years old, the foundation was established to support vital research to change the outcomes for patients.
Mission
The mission of The Bardo Foundation is to accelerate progress in osteosarcoma research, improve access to clinical trials, and ensure families have clear, reliable information at critical moments in diagnosis and treatment. The foundation prioritises collaboration and scientific innovation to drive meaningful change in a field where treatment options have remained largely unchanged for decades.
Activities
The Bardo Foundation funds and supports outstanding collaborative research initiatives, with a focus on translational science and multi-institutional partnerships. A core part of its work includes stewardship of Osteosarcoma Now, a global, patient-focused clinical trial and resource platform designed to reduce barriers to information, remove non-relevant trials, and help families navigate complex medical decisions with greater confidence.
Additional details
The Bardo Foundation works closely with researchers, clinicians, patient advocates, and international networks to break down silos in osteosarcoma research and care. Community engagement, transparency, and partnership working are central to its approach, alongside a strong commitment to improving both survival and quality of life for patients affected by osteosarcoma.
