VOLUNTEER JOB POSTING: Editors for the SPAGN Blog? Voices of Sarcoma?

We are looking for volunteers to serve on the Editorial team of SPAGN?s blog ?Voices of Sarcoma?.

 

Sarcoma Patient Advocacy Global Network (SPAGN) is the global network of national sarcoma patient advocacy organizations. Uniting more than 65 member groups from five continents, SPAGN is the voice for sarcoma patients around the globe. SPAGN is working to improve the treatment and care of sarcoma patients through information and advocacy, supporting its national members by increasing the visibility of sarcoma with policymakers and the public.

The Blog covers topics of interest to the wider SPAGN community, with the aim of conveying information, sharing experiences and viewpoints, and strengthening the bonds of the SPAGN community.

The Editorial Board (EB) is responsible for ensuring that the Blog is published on a regular basis, i.e., 1-2 times a month, with appropriate contents that are relevant for the audience and support overall SPAGN goals. The Editorial Board is composed of volunteer patient representatives who share responsibilities outlined below. There is no remuneration involved. The estimated work hours would be between 5 and 10 hours per month.

 

Your tasks as an Editor would be:

  • Gathering blog ideas from the SPAGN community & screening blog proposals
  • Contacting potential authors personally to solicit blog texts, corresponding with and coaching authors
  • Interviewing members as a basis for articles
  • Reviewing, editing, proofreading articles
  • Carrying out fact checking and peer review of articles where necessary
  • Writing own blog texts
  • Uploading blog texts and images to the website
  • Editing, proofreading and approving comments received from readers
  • Promoting the blog on social media channels of SPAGN
  • Participating in monthly team meetings (online)

 

We are looking for candidates with

  • strong listening and communication skills
  • excellent written English
  • ideally the full range of text skills (from constructing a story to proofreading for errors)
  • creative thinking ability
  • team working skills
  • an understanding of patient advocacy work and/or topics important for sarcoma patients and caregivers.

If you have a professional background or experience as an editor or blogger, this would clearly be an asset for our team. We are striving for diversity in backgrounds and competencies in our small team.
